POLLY HANRAHAN: PHOTOGRAPHER
TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF…..
My name is Polly, I’m a photographer from Brighton. I photograph womenswear mainly, and my favourite thing is working with small brands who are making an effort with sustainability.. for example, Sideline! Whom I have been working with since 2018.
I have suffered with Crohn’s disease for 17 years and counting.
I live in Brighton with my boyfriend Jamie.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Time spent outside and away from my phone. Good people doing good things.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
Being outside in general, whether I’m walking, cycling, gardening. I moved into a flat with a garden for the first time last year and learning about plants and how to grow is turning out to be my favourite thing.
Also - cooking, eating, music, reading, dogs.
WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON AND WHY?
To be honest I don’t know if I can name someone specific, but anybody who is uniquely themselves, who has confidence and fun with fashion. But also the kind of people who have treasured items in their wardrobe for years until they are falling apart. I aspire to be more like that!
WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO AND READING AT THE MOMENT?
Listening - My most listened to artists are Kano, Haim, Talking Heads, Toots & the Maytals. This doesn’t really change ever!
I love the ‘Off Menu’ podcast when I need something lighthearted and silly.
Reading - I recently finished reading Hope Not Fear by Hassan Akkad, which I can’t recommend enough. This could go into the ‘What Inspires You’ answer too, actually.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT SIDELINE?
The colour palettes, the textures, and the way it’s not heavily trend-led.
Also the efforts that Ellen goes to to use innovative fabrics and sustainable techniques. I feel increasingly depressed by greenwashing in fashion and it’s reassuring to work with someone who genuinely cares and puts huge effort into this.
