TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF…..
Hi I’m Milly. I run an ethical lifestyle store called Radical Giving in Lewes, East Sussex with my partner Steve. I studied fine art, specialising in sculpture and this is where my love of functional objects originated from.
I come from a very entrepreneurial orientated family and started my first business when I was Eighteen, selling books and bric-a-brac on Brick Lane and then ran my own vintage clothing company called More Amelia.
We’ve been fortunate enough to recently move ourselves and our business to the wonderful town of Lewes. We’ve already spent so much time enjoying the south downs and the abundance of nature here.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I’ve always been inspired by markets and finding hidden gems from the past that I can add to my collection at home. I love the idea of objects holding a past story. Markets are also brilliant for finding suppliers, there is always someone amazing to discover.
I also get a lot out of supporting small businesses that are still in the early stages of production. We work with people that are literally making their products in their kitchens or front rooms, this is extremely inspiring to me.
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
I love spending time with my family and friends. My Mum has a wonderful dog called Betty, I love her so much! It’s been so nice since moving to Lewes, meeting all the amazing people that come into our shop, everyone is so welcoming and supportive.
I love yoga and meditation as well and of course, long walks with Steve.
WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON AND WHY?
My style icon would have to be my nan haha. As a child I have vivid memories of her freshly painted nails and beautiful high heels, this has definitely been a big influence on me.
I also really love the effortless, casual style of Jane Birken and Kate Moss. How they could just wear a pair of jeans, a tee and would always look amazing.
WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO AND READING AT THE MOMENT?
My favourite band for the last few years has been The Allah-Las. I also love The Babe Rainbow and Aldous Harding, she has the most amazing weird videos.
I am currently reading The discomfort of Evening, by Marieke Lucas. It’s a beautiful story on grief from the perspective of a ten year old girl called Jas, beautifully written and very moving, I definitely recommend it.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT SIDELINE?
It’s always great to see a clothing company put ethics at the forefront of what they do. The quality is so high, making each piece extremely special and something to cherish for a long time. I also love the timeless cuts and silhouettes too!
