A POP-UP WITH SOUTHOVER GALLERY
Our Autumn Winter 24 magazine is titled Community so it felt very fitting to be invited to take part in the launch event at Southover Gallery , an event bringing together some of our favourite local makers and artists.
Upon moving into the Pink House in January 2024, new owners Charlie and Matt were excited to learn via a treasure trail of clues, that their new home was once a vibrant gallery. A hand painted sign discovered in the garden shed and some ruby red Peggy Angus wallpaper that appeared from behind a bookcase, were the first hints of a magnificent history.
The woman behind it all was Deirdre Bland, the famous model turned gallerist, who ran the gallery between 1973 and 1987. Deirdre succeeded in bringing together acclaimed artists of the day from Duncan Grant to Quentin Bell and Julian Trevelyan, treating her guests to whirlwind parties and raucous supper clubs while she sold art like hot cakes.
36 years after Deirdre’s acclaimed Farewell Exhibition brought together her final curation of artists, Charlie and Matt have re-launched her beloved Southover Gallery as a hybrid space for resident exhibitions, creative collaborations, inspiring events, private stays, bed and breakfast, reiki healing and our own line of curious antiques.
Sideline was thrilled to take part in the first event at the new Southover Gallery. Along with many other brilliant local brands, makers, retailers and artists we filled this beautiful home and gallery with our collections and the doors were opened to the public for the first time in almost four decades. The event was extremely cosy and heart-warming, every room filled with shoppers from near and far with a real feeling of support for small brands and makers.
Thank you for everyone who stopped by, we hope to take part in more events like this in the future.
