EMMA CROMAN: photographer

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF…..

I’m a photographer specialising in UK travel and the experience around it - local food and fare and people. I travel in my van for commissions and document the behind the scenes on my blog TIDE where I am also creating some simple recipes for the road to form a series of ebooks. I’m originally from the Midlands but am currently living in Brighton where I’ve loved living, though it looks like I’ll be making a move back up next year which will give me easier access to commissions in Wales & Scotland.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

The textures and colours of nature. Autumn. Interior design. Artisans. Folk holding traditions dear. Those that carry out their craft in their own way.

WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?

When I am on the road and I feel a really sense of freedom. I love wild places, they fill my soul. Also, my chocolate Labrador Monty, he’s my best pal and makes me laugh every single day.

WHO IS YOUR STYLE ICON AND WHY?

When I was taking part in some group coaching throughout lockdown we did a visualisation exercise where we met our powerful self - Jean greeted me on a driveway running through an orchard and she was dressed in easy, utilitarian clothing and it has driven my every clothing choice since.

WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO AND READING AT THE MOMENT?

I’m reading The Sea, The Sea by Iris Murdoch. It’s a curious book, it’s hard to like the main character but you still turn page after page nonetheless. And the narrative of the sea’s power weaved through is magical.

Listening wise I really love Poemme, especially for editing. All the music Poemme creates is inspired by nature and I find it so beautiful. I’m also really loving 90’s dance at the moment, I have various NOW compilations on vinyl and love to put them on while cooking.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT SIDELINE?

I love that it’s all made to last with a timeless feel, I’m a huge believer in buy well, buy once. There is a beautiful femininity to the pieces without being inaccessible. Everything is easy to wear and comfortable which is so important in my job and my neurodiversity which can’t handle fitted clothing. The attention to detail is amazing.

Emma wears this seasons Mabel Cords in black and our super cosy patch-work Snug Scarf.
