Tell us a bit about yourself...

I am a maker and leatherworker and I live in Bruton, Somerset. I have a small brand called Rag of Colts. I design and hand make bags, using repurposed vintage bridle leather.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by skill, by craftsmanship, by attention to detail. I’m inspired by texture and colour and natural materials. I’m inspired by process and by creativity in every form. I’m inspired by dedication to a cause. I’m inspired by passionate people. I’m inspired by nature and constantly overwhelmed by its perfection.

What makes you happy?

I think I am happiest when making things and also just being out in nature, especially walking my dogs. I love early mornings, camp fires, wood smoke and the smell of freshly cut grass. Spending time with people that I love makes me very happy, friends and family. And setting off for a road trip in Dolly the Dodge, my 1995 imported American day van is guaranteed to put a huge smile on my face!

Who is your style icon and why?

My sister has an effortless ability to throw on absolutely anything and look like she is about to hit the catwalk. She is without doubt the best dressed person I know – pure understated chic – be it old jeans or Celine – everything looks a million dollars. Sister you are my style icon.

What are you listening to and reading at the moment?

I rarely listen to music while I work but I tend to have Radio 4 in the background – partly because that’s the only station my radio can get! I read a lot. I don’t have a TV so settling down with a book in the evening is a treat. Currently on the go... “Sapiens” by Yuval Noah Harari - completely fascinating – I have been meaning to read it for some time and have just got my hands on a copy. “Reflections in a Golden Eye” by Carson McCullens, “Wilding” by Isabella Tree and I have just finished “Olive Kitteridge” by Elizabeth Strout. I also recently finished and absolutely loved “A Manual for Cleaning Women” by Lucia Berlin

What do you like about SIDELINE?

I honestly sometimes feel like SIDELINE was made just for me, I don’t know how else to describe how much I love it. First the cut is perfect- everything fits like a dream. And the quality of the materials is obvious.  I also love the detailing and the finish. Thank you Ellen!
